Is Your Ex a Stalker?

At one point in our lives, we’ve experienced having persistent ex-boyfriends who just can’t accept the fact that the relationship is over. This persistence could lead to stalking, especially if your ex is a little unstable. A stalker will usually start by monitoring your every move and telling your friends that the two of you are still together. He will increase their contact with your friends and family by arranging to meet them. If he fails to get the sympathy of your parents, he will soon resort to spreading nasty rumors about you. He could even send out embarrassing photos, like naked pictures he might have taken without your knowledge. When he becomes desperate, he will resort to threats of suicide in hopes that you will get back with him out of pity. When the stalker finds out that your friends are trying to protect you from him, he will treat them as a threat to the relationship. If you are dating someone, your boyfriend could be in harm’s way. Most stalkers will end up vandalizing your home, and even try to kidnap you to keep you close to him. Once the physical aggression is focused on you, he could end up killing you. If you think that your ex could be stalking, go to the police immediately.

Online Dating: Protect Yourself

Online Dating Communities are popping up everywhere, and they have opened a new arena for predators to look for prey. Although, most of these men are honest, hardworking citizens; there are a few bad apples. Even if the possibility of you being attacked by a stranger is significantly less than that of being molested by a family, the danger is still there. These online dating communities, especially localized matchmaking sites, have put a lot of women, as well as men, at risk because they cannot guarantee the authenticity of the personal information given by their clients. For all you know, your potential match can be a convicted felon emailing you from prison.

Don’t rush into meeting your potential match; and if you do, meet in a busy place. Always listen to your gut, if you think that the person who wants to meet up with you is married, you might be right about it. Don’t give out your personal information, especially your telephone number and home address; you will only put yourself in unnecessary risk. You should also opt to drive yourself instead of letting him pick you up for the date. Lastly, set up another email account for the dating site so your personal email will not be compromised by spam mail.
